The Million Fathers March is more than a morning event. It is an invitation for fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, foster fathers, uncles, mentors, coaches, clergy, and other caring men to become active partners in children’s education.
A Tribute to Service: Launching the L-Force Civic Engagement Academy
This year’s March also pays tribute to the life and legacy of Lawrence E. Wilbon, a servant leader whose unwavering commitment to civic duty and fatherhood continues to inspire.
In his honor, we are proud to launch the L-Force Civic Engagement Academy—a national initiative designed to deepen fathers' impact through leadership training, community service, and civic participation.
A Movement Born from Vision
The Million Fathers March began in Chicago in 2004 through the vision and leadership of Phillip Jackson and The Black Star Project.
What started as a grassroots call for Black fathers and male caregivers to walk children into school grew into a national movement centered on love, leadership, educational advocacy, and community responsibility.

Founded in 2004 by Phillip Jackson and The Black Star Project, the Million Fathers March has mobilized fathers, schools, organizations, and communities for more than two decades. Fathers Incorporated has coordinated the national campaign since 2018.
A Legacy Built Across Generations.
In 2004, the first Million Fathers March mobilized Black fathers and male caregivers across the country to walk their children into school on the first day.
What began as a powerful local action—fathers showing up visibly and proudly—has grown into a nationwide movement that affirms one simple truth: When fathers show up, children thrive.
