A Movement Born in the Schoolyard. A Legacy Built Across Generations.

In 2004, the first Million Fathers March mobilized Black fathers and male caregivers across the country to walk their children into school on the first day. What began as a powerful local action—fathers showing up visibly and proudly—has grown into a nationwide movement that affirms one simple truth: When fathers show up, children thrive.

Celebrating the Legacy

Now, 20 years later, we celebrate a legacy that began with a painful memory in a Chicago schoolyard and became a national call to action. Inspired by the lived experiences of Phillip Jackson, founder of The Black Star Project, the Million Fathers March remains an enduring symbol of love, leadership, and community.

A Historic Partnership for a Historic Moment

To honor this milestone year, Fathers Incorporated is proud to partner with Chicago’s Black Star Project—the birthplace of the March—to elevate the legacy of this movement, reignite national momentum, and uplift a new generation of engaged fathers and empowered communities. Together, we will honor the past, activate the present, and envision the future of fatherhood in America.

A Tribute to Service: Launching the L-Force Civic Engagement Academy

This year’s March also pays tribute to the life and legacy of Lawrence E. Wilbon, a servant leader whose unwavering commitment to civic duty and fatherhood continues to inspire. In his honor, we are proud to launch the L-Force Civic Engagement Academy—a national initiative designed to deepen fathers' impact through leadership training, community service, and civic participation.
